“End Hunger: Walk the World” is an annual event to raise money and awareness for the United Nations World Food Programme’s (WFP) efforts to fight child hunger and malnutrition. The Walk is a joint effort of WFP and its global humanitarian partners TNT, Unilever and DSM. This event does not only happen in the Philippines in 80 different countries across the world. It is their goal to raise awareness on the rising problem of child hunger and malnutrition as well as to raise funds for the World Food Programme’s school feeding activities. The school feeding program aims to bring children to school and make them stay by providing healthy and nutritious food as an incentive.

This is the 2nd “End Hunger: Walk the World” for the Philippine community and I am proud to say that I was part of the first run as well. During last year’s event, there were only 2 categories: the 1k walk or the 5k run. From the name itself, the event was supposed to be a walk and not a fun run. However, due to the rising popularity of the running sport in our country, the organizers decided to add a 5km run category. In last year’s event, KC Conception was also present and joined the walk as the newest national ambassador for the United Nations’ World Food Program (WFP). She graced us with a song number along with some of the kids the program has already helped.

This year, they put it up another notch by increasing the distance for the walk and making it a 2km walk while also adding another running category, the 10km group run! I immediately registered upon hearing about this and I encourage you to do so too! You will not only be able to get up and stay healthy by exercising but also be helping feed thousands and millions of mouths and be part of this worldwide event! It’s simply a win-win situation. Just think of it as taking a stroll in the mall.

My run last year was not bad… and I’m guessing it’ll be even better this year.
