A few days ago, we were learning all about our hands and how our hands can feel various things! We tried touching soft and hard objects, rough and smooth, hot and cold! But there was something that the kids were not use to feeling everyday! We wanted them to feel sticky, oozy, goo! After touching it and exploring with it, we asked them how it felt. We didn’t get a single answer! The goo just left them speechless and in awe. It seemed as if they had no idea what they were touching and were trying to understand the weird feeling it was giving them.

What you will need

  • Corn Starch
  • Water
  • Food Coloring
  • A Big Container

.

Mix all 3 ingredients in the big container! There should be more flour than water!

At first, the texture may seem a little bit weird and it might be a little bit hard, but don’t just keep adding the water. Try mixing it a little before adding more water. Too much water will surely make it softer and melt the flour, but it will also change the texture too much and hence defeating the whole purpose of the activity. So make sure NOT to put too much water!

Check out the color of the goo while we were mixing it!

It was as if a portal was opening up!

So after you’ve mixed all the ingredients, let the kids play and have some fun! Try to ask them how it felt. My kids simply stared at me not knowing what to say. If you got the mixture right, it should feel as if you were trying to pick up something solid, but as you lift the goo, it drips away. My co-teacher, Dorothy, was as amazed as the children during the experiment!

Teachers want to play too… We’re really just kids in adult bodies!

Oh and by the way, the food coloring does not easily come off with hand soap, the best thing to use is detergent powder or soap!
