I love running and I most especially love running for a cause. About a month ago, a friend informed me about a fun run called “Run against Cancer” which was being organized for the benefit of indigent cancer patients. I knew I couldn’t miss out on this opportunity.

Amidst security jitters following the Boston Marathon bombing, Run Against Cancer charity run successfully pushed through as planned on April 20, 2013 at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig.

“We had to infuse more friends from the police to protect the public as well as guarantee the safety of our runners,” said Dr. Charity Gorospe, Corridor of Hope’s adviser and St. Luke’s Cancer Institute-BGC’s director.

It was one of the few times I saw several police with bomb sniffing dogs learning the race grounds. I was glad that the organizers took proper precautions.

It was a different atmosphere that day as the usual runners were joined by cancer survivors, families of cancer victims and even several cancer patients. Everyone was there for one cause; everyone was there to run against cancer. It feels good to give back, don’t you think?

I loved the short messages after every few kilometers!

Also present that day were several celebrity runners supporting the same cause such as Karylle Tatlonghari, Yael Yuzon, Chris Everingham and Andrew Wolff.

Despite being a simple run for a cause, there were also a lot of freebies for the runners; a box of fresh milk from Nestle, some magazines, etc. Free trips to Batanes and Palawan were even raffled off by Skyjet Airlines! Congratulations to the winners, I’m so jealous!

Run against Cancer was well organized and exceeded my expectations. Congratulations to the organizers, Huper International for not only organizing a clean run but for organizing a run for a really good cause! They were actually the same organizers of School Run for School Rooms! Looking forward to your next charity run!
