Athletes in Action and FILA present: Schools Run for School Rooms

Last year’s typhoon Sendong left several families and households without shelter, food and clothing. For most of them, the clothes on their backs were all they had left. Though six months have already gone by, the affected areas are still a long way to rebuilding what was destroyed.

This June, children all over the Philippines get ready for school. Most if not all schools in fact have already begun. However, I can’t say the same for the schools in Iligan City. Typhoon Sendong left these children with nothing but land and broken walls when it struck.

Heeding to the call of the times, FILA and Athletes in Action (AIA) join forces to bring the biggest advocacy run to help raise funds for the rehabilitation of classrooms in Iligan city.

The Schools Run for School Rooms (SRSR) marathon joins all student-runners from all over and even PNP members and officials to bring a glimmer of hope to Iligan city, where eager students have to do with makeshift classrooms as the school year starts.

School run for school rooms

What: School Run for School Rooms

When: July 7, 2012, Saturday (5am)

Where: Bonifacio High Street

About the Run:

This Athletes in Action’s first ever student-based fun run is for the benefit of the Filipino youth who were worst hit by Typhoon Sendong in 2011. The run aims to gather 20,000 runners from rival universities and colleges in Metro Manila and other youth organizations to run together for a common cause -> that of rehabilitating classrooms in calamity-stricken communities. It’s a beautiful unifying event for the benefit of our devastated school children.

To date, 13 universities and colleges have signified their interest to join the Advocacy Run. These include UP Diliman (UP), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), De La Salle University (DLSU), University of Sto. Tomas (UST), Far Easter University (FEU), University of the East (UE), Jose Rizal University (JRU), National University (NU), San Beda College (SBC), San Sebastian College – Recoletos (SSCR), AMA University of Makati (UMLA) and many more! (Ahem, YOU!)

Beneficiary: Schools in Iligan City

Typhoon Sendong left them nothing, and now they will start from scratch! According to GMA Kapuso Foundation, one classroom costs roughly 500k pesos! Hence, this run aims to get at least 20,000 runners to register so we can build 10 classrooms or more!
