Run for 10: A Successful Run for Education

I had the privilege to be part of yesterday’s event dubbed Run for 10 from Ten Moves. I didn’t really understand the huge impact this run and this group had until I saw it for myself. Somehow, the ten moves run, more than any other run for a cause really made me feel like my presence made that much of a difference. There were no recorded times, no top finishers, no contests because the winners today were not the runners, but the children we all helped. It was such a blessing to be one of those people who ran to give these children another shot at education.

Run for 10 is for the benefit of those cities that were hit by typhoon Pablo. The goal of this run was to come up with enough funds to build as many classrooms as possible. The run was held simultaneously in Makati, Dipolog, Zamboanga and Angeles last Jan. 13, 2013.

I was one of the participants in the Manila Leg. The run started a few minutes later than the announced gun start, however, the emcees did explain that it was because they wanted to finish their short program first before they send us off. I don’t think any of the runners minded. Everyone’s mood and camaraderie somehow just filled the air.

At first I wondered why the organizers/group decided not to time the run or award the top 3, but after they explained that it was the CHILDREN who are the winners today, I felt touched and realized they were right.

I didn’t leave immediately and instead decided to watch the program.

The students and teachers from Mt. Pulag came all the way to Makati to perform for us!

The kids were absolutely adorable!

The run was mostly about unity. Runners coming together for one common goal, one common cause. I guess that’s what made it all the more special. And to prove this unity, celebrity guests from different stations were invited to take the Ten Moves Pledge.

I freaked out seeing these handsome men on stage! Starstruck much?

What YOUR 10 peso can do!

There was this vending machine at the event that asked, what can YOUR P10 do today? Inside were little cardboard pieces. Curiosity kicked in and we all wanted to see what was in it!

Just like a vending machine, you simply need to put in the coin and select the item you want.

When I opened the envelop, this is what I got.

This really put a huge smile on my face. In all the runs I joined, this must’ve been one of the most gratifying and humbling experiences ever. I’m glad in my own way, I got to help make their futures brighter.

It doesn’t end here though, there’s still a long way to go, and a lot more way we can help. Find out how you can be part by visiting http://www.tenmoves.org/
