Last September (I think)… I registered for the Greentennial Run, simply because it was organized by La Salle, and the fee was way cheaper since it was still early.I was eagerly waiting for the run, though it was still months away.

Finally, 2011 rolled in… and there were just a few weeks before my first run for the year, the Greentennial Run. On the week itself however, there was a change of plans and I almost didn’t make it to the run! Fortunately, everything worked out fine! I run the race with my co-teacher, Jessica.

My Greentennial Experience

We arrived at the fort just minutes before gun start and reached the starting line just as the other 5k runners run off. I honestly don’t know my running pace but I usually try to run slower or faster depending on who I’m with. In this case, I had to slow down my pace a little, just as I usually do when I run with my fiance.  I don’t train so I’m not really able to run the entire 5km but I try to keep up. Eventually, my friend and I parted ways and I tried my best to get pass other female runners ‘coz I wanted the medal badly! haha (The medal was given to the first 100 finishers for each category) Lo and behold, though I did not beat my PR, I made it to the top 100 and got my Greentennial medal! (yey!)

What I liked about the run

I think the whole race was properly organized! There were enough water stations, the loot bags were good and the race route was great. I think one of the most memorable thing about it though was the number of photographers! Upon crossing the starting line, there were about 10-15 photographers arranged in a pyramid like form, taking photos! I wish I could’ve taken a photo of them, if only I wasn’t rushing to catch up with the 5k runners! And after that pyramid of photographers, there were still 10-20 more who were around corners, posts and the like! So for those who joined the run, be ready to see some gorgeous or wacky shots of yourself on the internet!

Other things which made the run well worth it

  • Jump shot. There was an area wherein runners were asked to jump as their photo was taken. It was really fun! I wanted to join in but I didn’t want to slow down.
  • There was a part in the 10k route (Just as the 5k runners were to turn) wherein runners could “shower”. A truck which has sprinklers attached to it for runners who wanted to wet themselves! If only I didn’t have my camera and cellphone, I would’ve plunge right into it as well!
  • The entire area was filled with booths! Photo booths, food booths and alumni booths that sold DLSU merchandise! I wanted to buy the shirt and jacket badly but didn’t bring enough cash.
  • Lots of hydration areas
  • Overflowing loot bags with stuff we could actually use
  • Several sponsors and freebies
  • Medals for the top 100 finishers for each category

So when’s the next? I’m already excited!
